Ladames belonged to a prominent Aetolian family, and he was probably the leader of a group of local mercenaries fighting for the Romans; see S.Zoumbaki, in "War, Warlords and Interstate Relations in the Ancient Mediterranean", p. 358 ( Google Books ).
[The league of the] Aetolians honours Ladames [of Kalydon, the son of Nikias], on account of his virtue and his good conduct [towards it], after he had served in the army and had been honoured [with a spear by Lucius] Cornelius Sulla, and with [military awards for] his bravery.
