Sylloge Inscriptionum Graecarum: 407

THE TYRITAI MAKE A DEDICATION AT DELPHI

Greek text:   FD_3.1.68
Date:     276/5 B.C.
Format:   see key to translations

This remarkable gift from a small town in Laconia appears to consist of cattle that had been reared in the territory of Oiantheia near Delphi; but the reference to Oiantheia has been removed in the reading of the inscription proposed by J.Bousquet, "Inscriptions de Delphes", pp.428-430 ( Persée ).

In the year of Charixenos as archon at Delphi, with Kriton, Aristokrates and Ornichidas as members of the council; the Tyritai, a village of the Lakedaimonians, dedicated 50 oxen to the god from the Oianthaians.
