In 49 B.C. Metellus Scipio became proconsul of Syria, and after some victories in the Amanus mountains he was proclaimed imperator, as mentioned in the hostile account by Julius Caesar ( BCiv. 3.31.1 ). With the onset of civil war, he moved his forces to Asia Minor, where he spent the winter of 49/8 B.C.
The people honours Quintus Caecilius Metellus Pius Scipio, son of Quintus, the imperator, their saviour and benefactor.
