These local priests of Apollo were appointed annually, as can be seen for instance from the pattern of the Halieia and Romaia festivals, which were celebrated once every four years. It is assumed that the war which caused the delay of one of the festivals was the siege of Rhodes by Mithridates in 88 B.C. ( Appian:Mith_24 ).
