This award of citizenship was probably granted to mercenaries who had been hired to defend Dyme and other cities against attack by the Aetolians in 219 B.C. ( Polyb_4.60 ); see E.Mackil, "Creating a Common Polity", pp.299-300 ( Google Books ).


In the year when Aristolaïdas was theokolos, Timokrates was leader of the council, (?) Kylon was president, and Menandros was secretary of the public guards; the city granted citizenship to the following men, who joined us in fighting the war and preserving the city, after considering the merits of each of them:
