Hieron II of Syracuse adopted the title of 'king', in the same way as the Greek rulers in the eastern Mediterranean. He started to use the title some time between 269 and 265 B.C.; see J.F.Lazenby, "The First Punic War", page 36 ( Google Books ).
Under the leadership of king Hieron, son of Hierokles, the Syracusans dedicated this to all the gods.
