Sylloge Inscriptionum Graecarum: 369

A STATUE OF PYRRHOS AT KALLIPOLIS, AETOLIA

Greek text:   IG_9.1².154
Date:     289 B.C.
Format:   see key to translations

Dittenberger considered it likely that this inscription was connected to fighting between Pyrrhos and Demetrios in Aetolia in 289 B.C. ( Plut:Demetr_41 ). A date about 10 years later, after the devastation caused by invading Gauls, has been suggested by J.B.Scholten, "The Politics of Plunder", page 49 ( Google Books ).

The city [of Kallipolis] honours [king] Pyrrhos, son of king Aiakidas, on account of his virtue and his generous conduct towards them.
