DEPOSITION OF WITNESSES

The sealers (declare), having sworn by the fortune of the Emperor Caesar Titus Aelius Hadrianus Antoninus Augustus Pius that they give the following testimony in good faith. Being present in the village of Philadelphia in the division of Heracleides in the Arsinoite nome at the Caesareum we in this way beheld Gaius Maevius Apellas, veteran of the ala Apriana, being flogged at the order of the strategos Hierax by two guards with rods and scourgings. Wherefore we in good faith testify that we beheld him being scourged in the village of Philadelphia. The 16th year of Antoninus Caesar the lord, Mecheir 17. {Endorsed} I, . . . Diodorus, have sealed.
