RECEIPT FOR REPAYMENT OF A LOAN

Date:   A.D. 112.

The 16th year of the Emperor Caesar Nerva Trajanus Augustus Germanicus Dacicus, the 26th of the month Apellaeus or Phaophi, at Ptolemais Euergetis in the Arsinoite nome. Heraclous daughter of Ammonius, aged about 66 years, with a scar in the middle of her forehead, having with her as guardian her son Sabinus son of Didas, aged about 43 years, with a scar in the middle of his forehead, acknowledges to Tasoucharion daughter of Petermouthis son of Poseidonius, aged about 60 years, with a scar in the middle of her chin and a mole at the left side of her nose, having with her as guardian her son Isidorus son of Asclepiades, aged about 28 years, with a scar on the left side of . . , that she, Heraclous, has received from Tasoucharion through the bank of Harpocration in the Treasuries quarter 1612 silver drachmas which Tasoucharion owed to her on the evidence of a deed of loan executed through this same record-office and of a draft of the bank of Sarapion in the 11th year of Trajanus Caesar the lord, the 2[.] of the month Caesareus, which documents have been surrendered to her to be annulled and cancelled, and that neither Heraclous herself nor her assigns will take proceeding against Tasoucharion or her assigns with regard to the 1612 silver drachmas which she has received as aforesaid or to the interest on them, seeing that this too she has received, or about any other matter at all or debt or claim of any kind, written or unwritten, from times past up to the present day, in any manner; and Heraclous admits that the voluntary notification of personal liability which Tasoucharion has made in favour of Heraclous through the property registration-office is in every respect invalid, which deed of lien has been likewise surrendered to her to be cancelled. The above agreement is valid.

{Subscribed and signed}   I, Heraclous daughter of Ammonius, having with me as guardian my son Sabinus son of Didas, have received from Tasoucharion through the bank of Harpocration in the Treasuries quarter the 1612 silver drachmas which she owed me on the evidence of the specified deed of loan and of the draft, which documents I have surrendered to her to be cancelled and I will not take proceedings against her about the sum which I have received or the interest on it or any other matter at all, written or unwritten, up to the present day in any manner, and I admit that the notification of personal liability which Tasoucharion has made is invalid as aforesaid. I, Sabinus, have written for my mother also, as she is illiterate. I, Tasoucharion daughter of Petermouthis, having with me as guardian my son Isidorus son of Asclepiades, have had the receipt made to me as aforesaid. I, Isidorus, have written for my mother also, as she is illiterate. Year 16, Phaophi 26.
