The year after the consulship of our master Flavius Justinus, Phamenoth 1[.], 6th indiction, at Syene. Aurelius Jacob, whose father is Pais son of Reuben and his mother . . ., being a . . . by trade, and his wife Aurelia Tsendia, whose father is Sourtus and her mother Touote, both dwelling in Syene, bringing a signatory on their behalf and witnesses who sign below, to Flavius Jacob son of Isaac and of Tlous, drummer of the numerus of Syene and himself belonging to Syene, greeting. We acknowledge that with free and fixed purpose and guileless intention and pure conscience, in accordance with this unduplicated written bond, we have sold to you today and conveyed to you from now to all succeeding time the house belonging to us in its entirety from basement to house-top, which house is situated in the said Syene within the northern part of the fortress and the quarter containing the Camp and the house of Papnouthius son of Maurus and the camel-yard of the carriers from Philae and came to us by right of purchase from Abraham and Alammon sons of Paul son of Uranius and to them by right of inheritance from their deceased father Paul son of Uranius and to him by right of inheritance from his parents. The contents of the whole house are: on the first floor two store-rooms, one large one on the south facing north towards the subsidiary gateway and another on the east facing west towards the main gateway, and the space below the stair or techerere, on the second floor two dining-rooms, one facing north, another facing west towards the staircase, and above these two uncovered dining-rooms on the third floor forming the house-top, and the stair from basement to house-top. Its boundaries are on the south a public street and beyond this the house of Pius son of Tagaria, on the north the house now belonging to Pius son of Isaac also called Posius, on the east the house of Peteroous son of Martyrius and his wife Terou daughter of Teron, on the west a public street into which its principal door opens, absolutely in conformity with the deed of sale made for us about this property, which deed we have delivered to you for your greater security, or whatever the boundaries may be on every side, according to the statement of us the vendors. And we have left nothing unsold in the aforesaid house. The price mutually agreed upon and approved is eighteen solidi of assayed gold, of old mintage and correct weight, total 18 gold sol., the whole of which price we the vendors have received on the spot from you the purchaser on the present day from hand to hand in the said Syene, complete in number and weight, so that henceforth you the purchaser may own and be master of the aforesaid house in its entirety from top to bottom and administer and manage it and build or sell or give it away or bequeath it to your children and descendants or dispose of it in whatever manner you choose without let or hindrance, and neither we nor any other acting in our name may make, now or in future, any claim against you on any occasion in any manner on any pretext, because, as we said before, we have received from you the above-mentioned price in full. And if any person makes a claim against you or disputes the possession of the aforesaid house in its entirety from top to bottom or of part of it, we the vendors will repel him and make clear your title at our own expense. And we have issued to you this deed of sale which is valid and guaranteed over the signature of our signatory, and in answer to the formal question we have given our consent and delivered the deed.
{Signed} We the aforesaid, Aurelius Jacob son of Pais son of Reuben and his wife Aurelia Tsendia daughter of Sourtus, have sold the aforesaid house in its entirety from groun d to air and have received from you the above-mentioned price of eighteen solidi and guarantee the sale as aforesaid. I, Flavius Photis son of Thalasius, Augustalianus of the legion of Syene, have written for them at their request, as they are illiterate. I, Aurelius Jacob son of Psennesius, from Syene, witness.
