The bottom half of this inscription was published in 1999 by Ph. Gauthier, "Nouvelles inscriptions de Claros : décrets d'Aigai et de Mylasa pour des juges colophoniens" ( Persée ). The top half was discovered in 2011, and the complete inscription was published in 2018 with a French translation and commentary by P. Debord & P. Fröhlich ,"Aigai d'Éolide et Colophon-sur-Mer : un nouveau fragment de l'inscription trouvée à Claros" ( Persée ).
The discovery of the top half of the inscription has enabled the decrees to be dated more accurately. They clearly belong to the reign of Attalos I, at a time when he had control over the city of Aigai.
[A] In the time of Dionysos (?) {as prytanis} for the second time, on the eighth day before the end of Kōmaiōn. Decree of the Aigaians.
Recommendation of the archons: since, when the people were eager to complete the trials that had been set in motion, and summoned judges from the city of Kolophon-on-Sea in accordance with the letter of king Attalos, the Kolophonians sent excellent men, Apollodoros son of Apollodoros, Kolidas, Leomedon son of Hermagoras, and Apollodoros son of Hegesimachos; 10 therefore let it be resolved by the people: to praise king Attalos because of the care that he never ceases to show towards the city in all matters; and also to praise the people of the Kolophon and the judges who have come, and to crown them with a crown of gold - the people on account of their virtue and their goodwill towards the people of Aigai, and the judges because they have judged the cases with integrity and justice; and to make them citizens and proxenoi; and that the archons in office in the time of the priest Praxidamas son of Apollonidas 20 shall take care to introduce this question within the legal period and to complete the procedures concerning the citizenship and the proxeny for them; and that gifts of hospitality shall be sent to the judges, and the oikonomos of the month shall ensure that they are sent: and as for the award of the crowns, in our city the dikaskopoi and the agonothete shall ensure that it is announced when we celebrate the Dionysia ; and that an envoy shall be elected to the Kolophonians, who will escort back the judges and who, after delivering the decree, will ask their people to make an announcement of the award of the crowns also among them, during the Klaria and the Dionysia, whenever their city next holds the games; 30 and he will ask them to inscribe the decree on a stele and to set it up in a sanctuary, wherever seems most appropriate to them. Pytheos son of Dionytas was elected as envoy.
[B] It was resolved by the council and the people, as recommended by the presidents: since the people of Aigai have sent a decree and the envoy Pytheos son of Dionytas, to praise our people and crown them with a crown of gold on account of their virtue and goodwill towards the people of Aigai, and also to praise the judges and crown them with a crown of gold because they judged the cases with integrity and justice; and the Aigaians grant them citizenship and proxeny, 40 in accordance with the terms of this decree, in which they have instructed their archons to ensure that the procedures concerning citizenship and proxeny are completed for them within the period fixed by the laws; and they have also decreed that that the award of the crowns should be announced at the Dionysia, and they also ask us to make an announcement of the award of the crowns at the Klaria and the Dionysia, whenever the city next holds the games, and to inscribe this decree on a stone stele and to set it up in the sanctuary, wherever seems most appropriate; therefore it is resolved by the council and the people: to praise the people of Aigai for their noble conduct 50 and for the favourable attitude they have towards our people, and because they grant to noble men the fitting marks of honour and gratitude; and to praise also the judges who were sent - Apollodoros son of Apollodoros, Kolides, Leomedon son of Hermagoras, and Apollodoros son of Hegesimachos - because they judged the cases for the Aigaians with integrity and justice, making their judgments in the best possible way; and, in order that the award of their crowns may be announced at the Klaria and the Dionysia in accordance with the request of the Aigaians, the agonothetes shall ensure that the award of the crowns is announced at the Great Klaria, 60 and the prytanis shall ensure that it is announced at the Dionysia, whenever the city next holds the games; and the decree of the Aigaians, as well as this one, shall be inscribed on a stone stele and set up in the sanctuary of Apollo Klarios; and the oikonomos Korōnos shall place a contract for the work for the preparing the stele and inscribing the decrees, and he shall pay the price of it to the contractor, and the public architect shall write the document for the contract; and the oikonomos Korōnos shall give the envoy gifts of hospitality, as prescribed by law.
