Inscription A was published in 2017 by N. Papazarkadas, "Judicial and Financial Administration in Late Hellenistic Athens: A New Decree of the Athenian Council" ( Hesperia 86.2 ). It contains some new information for scholars interested in Athenian judicial processes and public finances; but for the general reader, the most interesting aspect is likely to be the clear statement in lines 12-14 of why an inscription was though to be essential.
B is another Athenian inscription which, although it is poorly preserved, apparently states that the production of inscriptions helps to support democracy. The translation of this inscription is taken from C.W. Hedrick, "Democracy and the Athenian epigraphical habit", pp.424-425 ( PDF ).
[A] In the archonship of Theokles, in the twelfth prytany, held by the tribe Attalis, when Demosthenes son of Kleinias of Kothokidai was the secretary, on the twenty-eighth (?) day of Skirophorion, twenty-seventh day of the prytany; council at Peiraieus in the theatre, having been transferred there from the Phosphorion, at the request of the generals. Of the presidents, Nikippos, son of Andragathos, of the deme [?Peirai]eus, put the motion to the vote. Resolved by the council, as proposed by Antipatros son of Dem... of the deme Epieikidai: since it happens that in the decree introduced by Antipatros of the deme Epieikidai concerning the "one-month" {emmēnoi} trials it has been recorded that the decree shall be inscribed on two stone steles 10 and that the treasurer of the court fee funds {prytaneia} [?Deini]as of the deme Pallene shall disburse the expense incurred; but since, owing to the fact that the court fee funds do not suffice for him, the fee for the inscribing of the decree has not been disbursed to the treasurer in charge of the revenues; and since it is essential and expedient for the people to have the decree inscribed so that it may be easily followed by those who wish; with good fortune, it is resolved by the council: the supervisors of courts who have been elected in the year of the archon Theokles shall disburse the expense that will be incurred . . .
[B] . . . this decree . . . of the people . . . [so that] the decree may not [become] defunct [through the passage of time], let [the secretary] of the prytany have the decree inscribed [on a marble stele] and have it set up [on the Acropolis and in the] law courts, and let [the treasurer of the stratiotic fund] apportion to him the expense that is incurred, so that when these things [are accomplished nothing contrary to the laws] 10 or inconvenient may occur, but the democratic and customary [system of government (?) may survive] for the Athenians.
