A DEDICATION BY SOLDIERS WHO CAMPAIGNED IN THRACE

Date:   145 B.C.
Format:   see key to translations

It is generally assumed that this inscription refers to the expedition in which Attalos II defeated the Thracian king Diegylis ( Strab_13.642 ).   For the various attempts to identify the place where the soldiers lived, see G.M.Cohen, "The Hellenistic Settlements in Europe, the Islands, and Asia Minor", pp. 197-8 ( Google Books ).

[This was dedicated . . . by] the soldiers from (?) Pakaleia who crossed over in the 15th year to the regions around the Chersonese and Thrace, in fulfilment of a vow.
