Greek text:   IvO_306
Date:   278-270 B.C.
Format:   see key to translations

Kallikrates was an admiral of the Ptolemaic fleet ( Syll_420 ); for a summary of his role in promoting the king's image abroad, see C.Marquaille, in "Ptolemy II Philadelphus and his World", p.58, n.86 ( Google Books ). The statues of Ptolemy II and Arsinoē ( OGIS_27 ) that he erected at Olympia were part of a large monument, which was designed to impress other Greeks; there is reconstruction of the monument in "The Statue of Zeus at Olympia: New Approaches", figure 7 ( Google Books ).

This statue of king [Ptolemaios, son of king] Ptolemaios and queen [Berenike], was dedicated to [Olympian] Zeus by Kallikrates of Samos, the son of [Boïskos].
