It has suggested that Antipatros, who is mentioned in this inscription, is the same man as 'Antipatros of Epirus', who won the stadion race at the Olympic Games in 136 B.C. ( Chronicle of Eusebius, p.209 Schoene ). This suggestion is attractive, although it cannot be proved; see for instance S. Scharff, "Hellenistic Athletes", note on p.193 ( Google Books ).
. . . when Sokles Essyrios, the son of Glaukidas, spoke concerning proxeny for Chairias of Teos, the son of Dioskouridas, and explained what goodwill he continually has towards the community of the Prasaiboi, and that after he was taken on as trainer by Antipatros son of Archias he showed great care and goodwill in his craft and in the rest of his conduct towards Antipatros, therefore it was resolved by the council and the assembly of the Prasaiboi to praise Chairias of Teos, the son of Dioskouridas, for his goodwill towards the Prasaiboi and for 10 his care and goodwill towards Antipatros, and that Chairias shall shall be a benefactor and a proxenos of the Prasaiboi, both himself and his descendants, and that he and his descendants shall have the right of owning land and buildings in Prasaibia, and that they and their possessions shall have security in war and in peacetime, in regard to the Prasaiboi, and that they shall have freedom from taxes and full rights and all the other privileges which have been prescribed for other proxenoi and benefactors.
