OGIS: 195

A STATUE OF MARCUS ANTONIUS, DEDICATED BY PARASITOS

Greek text:   OGIS_195
Date:   34 B.C.
Format:   see key to translations

The friends of Antonius and Cleopatra formed a society of "Inimitable Livers" ( Plut:Ant_28 ). The name of the dedicator of this statue is probably ironical, suggesting that he is a 'parasite'.

This statue of the great Antonius, inimitable in love - his god and benefactor - was dedicated by Parasitos in the 19th year which is also the 4th year, on the 29th day of Choiach.
